Ah, Life

by Annette Szczepan

Is it the middle of May already? It seems that every time I come to write to you guys, it’s been so long and my life just keeps getting more hectic. And then I promise to keep up with writing only to be writing another apology post.

Nonetheless, I found out today that I am 100% on track for graduation. I will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Popular Culture on June 7th, 2012. Yes, that’s a real major. Mom and Dad are going 50/50 on a Tiffany charm bracelet for me. They agreed on something, believe it or not!

Furthermore, I have been applying for entry-level jobs. Jobs in Los Angeles, New York City, Toronto and I threw a resume into a Chicago job post for fun. So far no results. I know the competition is fierce but I’m a hard worker, quick learner and I have passion so I will stay optimistic in my search. Is your PR firm or talent agency hiring? Let’s send you my resume!

Summer is here which means full-time employment begins. I start my new job, after three days of training last week, tomorrow. I can’t tell you how excited I am for health and dental benefits. Never taking such a thing for granted again.

I have multiple drafts that I need to publish tomorrow so make sure you’ve subscribed to my blog (to your right) or followed me on Twitter (also to your right). Exciting summer fun to come!

3F Fashions

by Annette Szczepan

Last night, @ChrisSikora, @ElaSzczepan and I went to @ANTMLiveCanada and had such an amazing time. We were VIPs, of course, and participated in a lot of cool stuff. Post to come – promise!

Anyway, one of the cool vendors at the fair was @3FFashions. I had heard about them via Twitter a couple of weeks ago when singer @AleesiaMusic made an in-store appearance. Unfortunately, living in Hamilton, I wasn’t able to scurry over there quickly enough to make it.

Nonetheless, I checked out the 3F Fashions booth at America’s Next Top Model Live in Toronto and made a video with Chris.

In the video, we had to shout our favourite “f-word.” Naturally, we all know what my favourite f-word is… hah, just kidding! We kept it PG and came up with something very @OfficialKimora.

Please watch our video here (as embarrassing as it is…) and share it on whichever social media platform you prefer. Tweet it, Facebook it, Reblog this post. If our video gets the most views, we will win a $500 shopping spree!

You can learn more about 3F Fashions on their Facebook page. Don’t forget to ‘like’ them. Their clothing is awesome and they are always running cool contests.

McHappy Day 2012

by Annette Szczepan

As a McDonald’s employee, every time McHappy Day comes around, I get super excited!

Today is the day! With any Big Mac, Happy Meal, or hot McCafe beverage purchase, $1.00 will be donated to local charities that support sick children and their families. Of course, this includes Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

I have been with McDonald’s for seven years comes June 1st and I have worked three McHappy Days. My restaurant also does a charity carwash days before McHappy Day to raise more money for RMHC. That’s always fun. Wet, but fun!

However, McHappy Day is not the only way that McDonald’s contributes back to the community. Every day, McDonald’s donates $0.10 from every Happy Meal to charity. As well, they sponsor many events.

The first McHappy Day happened in 1977. Since 2004, over $34, 000, 000 have been raised.

Make sure you stop by @McD_Canada on your way home from work and pick yourself up a Big Mac for dinner and help support your community! Many locations have celebrities or local personalities in-restaurant helping out so you never know who you might run into on McHappy Day!

April Showers

by Annette Szczepan

The weather in Southern Ontario has been so ugly for the past couple of days. Rain, cold winds and grey skies. Not to mention that when this yucky weather started it was a Monday and I had to write my final, three-hour exam geography exam.

It just so happens – and I promise that this has nothing to do with the fact that I am blonde – that I always wear my moccasins when it rains. They are just so convenient but I guess they aren’t very practical when it comes to inclement weather. Boo!

Luckily, I was invited to attend #PressDays at @lotusleafstyle and introduced to this awesome company called Manitobah Mukluks.

I don’t know what your experience with buying moccasins has been but mine has been quite unsuccessful. I have this $15 pair from Zellers but I guess I can’t complain that they are not awesome when they only cost me $15.

Nonetheless, I want an awesome pair so I purchased myself a pair of Manitobahs! I haven’t even gotten them yet but I am already head over heels (haha, get it?) in love with my Canoe Moccasin!

I’m most excited that these moccasins are meant to be worn outside. It seems that everywhere I go, sales associates tell me “yeah, they are technically slippers but girls wear them outside.” Well, that’s great for other girls but I prefer to wear actual shoes outside. And the durable soles tell a story, too!

Manitobah Mukluks are a Canadian company started by an Aboriginal entrepreneur in 1997. Each product is genuinely aboriginal and uses traditional native design styles. All products are made in Winnipeg, Canada.

But I’m not the only one who loves Manitobah Mukluks. Canadian TV personality Jessi Cruickshank is a fan and is giving away a pair of her favourite Mukluks.

Don’t forget to ‘like’ Manitobah Mukluks on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Puppy Love

by Annette Szczepan

My dad adopted a dog.

She’s fat and torn up from being in a dog fight while with her previous owner but she’s a sweetheart.

Please disregard how tired and frizzy I look. It was a late night and an early morning – that’s never a good combination.

Nonetheless, puppy’s name is Lila. Or Lilka. Whichever mood dad is in, I suppose.

She couldn’t jump onto my lap because she is so fat and when I wouldn’t help her up, (dad doesn’t let her on the couch so I told her if she can jump on my lap, she can stay on the couch) she grunted at me! GRUNTED! Weirdo.

I’ll update on her weight loss progress. Fingers crossed for Lila to be able to jump on the couch on her own!
